Yesterday was my favorite Mother’s Day as a mother. I feel like now that I have four kids, and some of them are in school and I’m completely busy with their lives and needs–now I am a mother. Before, I was playing house.
The sweetest ode to motherhood I heard yesterday was part of a talk at church. The speaker was talking about her 84 year old, still-ranching, tough-as-nails Grandma. Her granddaughter was brushing her hair one night and Grandma leaned into her and pined, “I wish my mom was still here. Then I wouldn’t have to be so strong. I just need my mom.”
We never outgrow our need for our mothers. I will love and need mine forever.
